Newly-Formed Brazilian Energy Platform Auren Energia Begins Trading on Novo Mercado segment of Brazilian Exchange

Auren, created through the consolidation of Votorantim and CPP Investments energy assets in Brazil, launches as one of Brazil’s largest renewable energy platforms.

São Paulo, March 28, 2022 – Auren, a new Brazilian energy platform formed through the consolidation of renewable energy assets from Votorantim S.A. (“Votorantim”) and Canada Pension Plan Investment Board (CPP Investments), began trading on the Novo Mercado segment of Brazil’s B3 exchange on Monday under the ticker AURE3.

Auren begins this new phase with a diversified and 100% renewable energy portfolio, as well as a robust pipeline of projects that include hydro, solar, and hybrid energy generation solutions. It will also be one of the largest energy commercialization platforms in the country, serving more than 500 customers.

Auren’s  listing follows the successful incorporation on Monday of Brazilian power generator CESP’s shares with VTRM, the company created in October 2021 as a holding platform for Votorantim SA and CPP Investments’ Brazilian energy assets.

The listing ceremony was held at B3’s headquarters in São Paulo and attended by Gilson Finkelsztain, Chief Executive Officer of B3; João Schmidt, Chief Executive Officer of Votorantim; Ricardo Szlejf, Head of Latin America Infrastructure at CPP Investments; and Fabio Zanfelice, Chief Executive Officer of Auren.

“The new company is prepared to address the challenges of the energy transition and the transformation of the energy sector. It’s a new integrated platform which has a renewable generating assets supported by a growth strategy based on generation diversification and flexibility. That, combined with becoming one of the largest energy traders in the country, gives us the capacity and expertise to meet our customers’ needs,” said Zanfelice during the ceremony.

“Auren is born with the Votorantim DNA in renewable energy and with Votorantim and CPP Investments’ commitment to value creation. This is a milestone for Votorantim and represents our confidence in the fundamentals of Brazil’s energy sector, in the potential of our partnership with CPP Investments and the capital markets, and in the capacity of the Auren team to deliver consistent results,” added João Schmidt.

Ricardo Szlejf, Head of Latin America Infrastructure at CPP Investments, said: “As long-term investors in Brazil, we are proud to stand behind Auren Energia, a platform that will help support the country’s renewable energy development while also contributing to its economic growth. We see significant long-term upside in Brazil’s renewable energy market and this investment aligns well with our strategy of pursuing attractive risk-adjusted returns for our contributors and beneficiaries.”

“Participating in the growth of our customers is part of our mission here at B3. But we can also participate in the history of sustainable energy and together a Votorantim leadership, with this immense rumor about energy sources, is also a way of building and together a vision of the future that is sustainable”, commented Gilson Finkelsztain.
