Hello!
This is our bi-weekly newsletter where we share news about Votorantim and the companies in our portfolio, along with updates and insights about the market.
Climate Week
In September, New York City hosted Climate Week, one of the world’s most important gatherings on climate, bringing together companies, NGOs, and society to discuss climate change mitigation. In addition to participating in several panels and discussions through executives from the companies in our portfolio, we hosted two proprietary events at our office in the city.
At the event titled “Production and Conservation: A Virtuous Cycle Towards Sustainability,” Citrosuco, Reservas Votorantim e ECCON introduced the new PSA Carbon Agro Perene methodology, which generates carbon credits in rural areas. Meanwhile, during the discussion “Carbon Credit Generation in Brazil Beyond the Amazon: The Great Opportunities of the Pantanal,” exclusively for investors and VCU buyers, Reservas and ECCON presented REDD Pantanal, a recent addition to the company’s carbon portfolio, which will contribute to the conservation of the biome and climate change mitigation.
Reinforcing Brazil’s role in the climate agenda
Votorantim and the companies within its portfolio were also present at pre-Climate Week events in New York City. On September 18, the Brazil Climate Summit took place, a forum aimed at positioning the country as a global hub for climate solutions. During the event, Reservas Votorantim, B3, and ECCON announced the creation of the first national carbon credit trading platform. On September 19, the Brazil-US Climate Impact Summit, hosted by Amcham and Valor Econômico, brought together leaders from Brazil and the U.S. to discuss sustainability and energy transition. “Both Brazil and the United States are global leaders in climate, energy, and agribusiness, and one intersection between these areas is biofuels. We need to grow at an annual rate of 11% until 2030, and both countries are well-positioned to make this happen,” said Abrão Neto, CEO of Amcham Brazil, during one of the panels.
Additionally, on September 19 and 20, the SDGs in Brazil, hosted by the Brazilian network of the UN Global Compact, took place. This event is regarded as the largest corporate sustainability gathering in the world, bringing together hundreds of top leaders to discuss topics such as the environment, human rights, labor, integrity, and finance. Finally, on September 21, the Instituto Votorantim participated in the Summit of the Future, which gathered global leaders at the United Nations headquarters to forge a new international consensus on both present and future challenges.
Carbon credits on B3
Reservas Votorantim, B3, and ECCON announced the creation of the first national platform for carbon credit trading. The initiative was unveiled during the Brazil Climate Summit and is set to launch in 2025. It will enable the registration of Payment for Environmental Services (PES) projects, based on the PSA Carbonflor methodology developed by RV and ECCON last year. The goal is to simplify access to project information and expedite the issuance of carbon credits, allowing companies to offset their greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions. The platform already has the support of Grupo CCR, which will be the first company to acquire credits registered through this initiative.
